Re-charge ride final post

Well thank-you to all the hosts ... Club Members and riders who have been part of the Re-charge ride.

From what started out as an idea I had to ride around our District on Motorcycles turned out to be much more.

From the embryonic idea .. Ben Paix the President of Kempsey Club programmed a week of FUN ... and yes some serious moments. We ended up with a trip that somehow crossed a boundary between Group Study Exchange .. .and Friendship Exchange but was just good Rotary..

We spoke at Rotary meetings .. shared in the lives of our hosts ... learnt more of Rotary than anyone could have guessed and everyone bought home some "stolen" ideas .. and passed a few on. We raised a few "bob" .. but this was not the aim ... and even won on the Melbourne cup ... and donated the "grand" to an up and coming Violin player in 'Bello.

The bikes strained under the increased weight of the riders through some catering that was A++

For the Clubs who are not yet collecting Lead Acid Batteries ... give Ben a call at Kempsey and find out how their Club does it. Beats cooking snags .......

Fellow Rotarians we are approaching the half way mark of our Rotary year ... do yourself a favour .. grab a mate ... grab a few Club members and head off to another Club ... call it a makeup ... call it a holiday ... call it what you like ... just do it. From a visit to a neighbour Club .. .to an overnighter ... or a week long trek ... as the TV ad says .... "just do it..."

You will find a bit more of what it means to be a Rotarian and  come back a different person.

For the entire journey we had 4 Presidents ... 2 Assistant Governors .. .the Gov and First Lady ... a visiting Rotarian from Sydney and some first rate Rotarians and wives. Ages ... well let's say Ron and the "outfit" were the Seniors ..... in fun too. Give me a call and I will pass on the contact details of the nearest rider who I know will be only too happy to speak to your Club. Never know they may even ride to the meeting ... beware ... it might be contagious.

Something to think about .. .and debate .... District 9650 could have a Rotary Club with "mobile" boundaries that met in various locations ... not an E-Club but a group of Members who met physically when they could around a common interest .... .communicated by phone and e-mail as a condition of membership .... but often travelled as a group of friends. The Work of Rotary could be achieved by calling in to assist existing Clubs with their Projects ... from BBQ's to speaking. From Bikes to Caravans .. .to those who work a lot away from their home base. They actually enjoy being part of a Club that has no boundaries ... but agree to wear "the Pin" and perform community service in the towns they are in.
Drop me an e-mail and give me a hard time about why it would not work!! brianbees@gmail.com

I leave the final words to  Vaun Gegier the President of Walcha Rotary Club  when she sent us an en-route joke ....

Thanks for a great experience, but be assured that I’d rather ride with you and Ron ….. than this lot !!
Congratulations to you all for putting the service, pleasure and fun of Rotary all around our District…. and even as far as Finland too.
( I think that Philip is quietly smiling and proud of his old biker wife…. !)
Safe return to base …..
